The members of the Tigers are rally enthusiasts and Chairman Kieran not only rallied but was a lifelong sponsor and close friend of the famous Bertie Fisher. Sadly Bertie and his son Mark and daughter Emma passed away as a result of a helicopter accident in January 2001. Kieran and cousin Fergus wished to publish a book in Bertie’s memory and as a tribute to him and his family, Fergus, a keen rally photographer and owner of probably the finest rally photo archive in Europe and literary fellow, with Kieran, took on the task of writing the book and the Tigers the task of publishing it – what a task this proved to be!
On 4th March 2016, one of the biggest motorsport dinners ever to take place on the island of Ireland was held in the Fisher Suite (named after Bertie) in the Armagh City Hotel of which Bertie was a director. This event was held to launch the “Kingfisher” book, the story of rally legend Bertie Fisher and was attended by anyone who was anyone in Irish and UK rallying over the last 40 years.
The proceeds from this event and book sales are going to the Fisher Foundation Trust which seeks to commemorate Bertie and Mark’s interest in rallying and Emma’s commitment to Christian services overseas by supporting those involved in these areas today.
To date, £40,000 has been presented to the Fisher Foundation with more to come in the future.
